Closer than ever

I brought Zelda home when she was 8 weeks old. Two weeks later at 10 weeks, I started working with Emma. We had Shelties when our kids were young and I knew that training and working with herding dogs is both challenging and rewarding. During our sessions over the following 3 months, Emma patiently worked with Zelda and I. I have learned so much about my interactions with Zelda. Every session was directed to issues/concerns that I had with Zelda. Emma was familiar with Australian Shepherds and always came prepared to challenge both of us every time we got together. Today, Zelda is a little calmer and does not have a lot of anxiety in new situations. We have bonded and are closer because Emma helped me learn how to resolve behavior issues as they have come up. Emma has always been one step ahead of us; an example of this is familiarizing Zelda with the “collar” she is now wearing after being spayed. We spent time showing her the collar and having her wear it for brief periods. I never would have thought of doing this on my own. Overall, my decision to work with Emma has been rewarding and has given me tools that I will continue to use on my own with Zelda.
